University Community Hospital-Carrollwood’s Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Receives Full Accreditation
2/6/2007
TAMPA, Fla. (February 6, 2007)--- University Community Hospital (UCH)-Carrollwood’s Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine recently received full accreditation from the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS), which indicates that the highest industry standards and best practices in hyperbaric treatment have been achieved. UCH’s Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine is one of only 68 centers in the nation to meet this organization’s rigorous accreditation process. Only 14% of the hospitals with hyperbaric medicine programs are accredited.
Over a period of several days, the UHMS survey team evaluated the quality of the facility and equipment, the professionalism of the staff, their level of training and the quality of care and patient safety measures to ensure that the highest standards of quality care are maintained at the facility.
"Providing the best quality care is a top priority for us," said Paula Latkovich, director of the Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine at UCH-Carrollwood. "We are very proud of this accreditation appointment and we are committed to seeing that UCH-Carrollwood serves as an industry benchmark for high standards and quality care."
"Fostering patient trust is a key driver throughout our hospital," explained Calvin Glidewell, chief executive officer of University Community Hospital-Carrollwood. "We hope this accreditation appointment gives patients the peace of mind that they are coming to a facility that is operating at the top of its field."
In addition, Ravi Patel, M.D., the medical director of the Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine recently became board certified in Hyperbaric Medicine. He is one of only 292 physicians who are board certified in this specialty. In 2000, the UHMS began the accreditation process due to the growth in hyperbaric medicine.
They use the process to measure quality assurance among wound care centers nationwide using Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). The medical industry has responded to the growing need for sophisticated wound care with new treatments and technology.
